The death of this journal

The fateful day has come. Say goodbye to this horrible thing, which is now replaced by another horrible thing

http://www.freehostz.com/ryanjd/

BTW, the jazz gig sucked. Nobody had any idea what was going on...anything from finishing solos and not nodding off to continuing the song even though the rest of the band had just slowed down and stopped (ie: THE SONG IS OVER). Major disapointment That's all I have to say about that.

In any case, say goodbye to this livejournal. :D

Finally started my site

Well my website is finally underway...however overly simplistic it may be right now. It's not even worth posting a link yet, so you don't get one. :p

Um...the dude from the DT cover band is supposed to call me today so we can talk about practicing Saturday. Matt has some sort of flu, but it should be gone by then (here's hoping), so we'll see what happens with that.

Practiced yesterday for the jazz gig tomorrow. Set will be as follows:

*=me soloing (the first two have a piano intro)

All Blues
Django
*Blue Bossa
*Afro Blue
*Footprints

That's not necessarily the order we'll play them in...just the order I remembered them. ;) I think we may do a blues jam as well...we'll see.

shikka boom

I went with Jacob to see Matt play on Saturday. He was with the "Nu Skool Ensemble," which is a group formed through the New School for the Arts (which he goes to). That was pretty sweet...some nice jam tunes going on there. It was him, a bassist, drummer, keyboardist, and the guitar teacher at the school doing guitar/percussion/singing (all very damn well). I'll definitely be watching them again. :D

The DT tribute band is gonna try to meet this Saturday. If Matt winds up doing bass for it, we've got everything but guitar and vocals...the two most popular instruments. Sweet irony.

That's all for now. On Friday the jazz band will be going to an elementary school to perform at some festival thing, so we'll see how that goes.

Yngwie Malmsteen rules

I came across my copy of Rising Force last night, and I sat down to listen to it all the way through. I loved every song on it.

The guy can be a useless wanker and write some stupid songs, but Rising Force is neoclassical heaven, especially considering that it was one of the premier albums for that type of stuff. It's hard to get into him because so many people have copied him and there's so many people playing so fast out there that he seems to just be another dime-a-dozen shredder, but he is far from it. He is the man who got the ball rolling. Just imagine being back in the 80's before any of that kind of stuff had been really tried before, and picking up Rising Force...that would be pretty mindblowing.

So keeping that in mind, along with the fact that the CD just plain rocks (great songwriting, great playing on all instruments, and it's got Jens Johansson, which rules in itself), I think I have a new CD to be addicted to for the next week.

Now...time for some more of the fjooking fury.

Don't sing

I forgot to mention...

High school girls should never sing the national anthem. At least, not unless they can hold out a note correctly (a half note does not mean you hold it for half a second you dolt), sing in key, not change keys randomnly 3 times in the song, and stop trying to sing sexually like every pop star and their mom does. You do not sound hot that way, you sound retarded. Cut it out and never sing again.

Hmm...

Practiced with Jacob and Mike today. They hadn't learned the song yet, so we just played a few jams and screwed around for awhile.

Tonight is the homecoming game, and I am sitting here home alone, surfing the net. I am just THAT cool. Tomorrow is the dance, and I am so incredibly cool that not only do I not have a date, I am not going at all. Look at me...I'm a freakin' stud. I'm so awesome it hurts. People would give anything to be me.

News Flash:
I need massive amounts of money. I need $600 for the Juno-D keyboard, about $400 for the computer I am going to build for recording purposes, and a good $300-400 for a better amp...60 watts isn't gonna cut it outside of band practice. So if anybody has around $1500 to send my way, please do not hesitate.

I think the scariest part is how I couldn't even buy a 61-key Triton Extreme for all of that O.o Man, I'm gonna be so broke by the time I get all the gear I'd like to have...

Other news:
Recent polls of high schoolers show that Bush would win by a landslide if chosen by then. Kerry only won like 2 states.

Keep in mind that high school includes everything from the giggly, ditzy bubble-gum-chewing girls with tight pink shirts and fake blonde hair to kids who wear black leather pants with chains hanging off every concievable location, peircings covering their faces, and mohawks so that they can "be individual" (because nobody has ever had a mohawk before)

And they picked Bush.

Have a nice day folks. :D And always remember what a studly chunk of awesomeness I am.

No practice today...we're gonna shoot for Friday.

I told Matt about the DT cover band and he is interested in playing bass for that, which would be sweet. We agreed that Crashing Dominoes goes on hold if we both wind up doing this though...he's super busy with projects, and it would start to pile up for me as well. I think that's best though if we do put it on hold a little longer....the music is great, but I really don't see it going anywhere quite yet. I guess if we had a full band that might change things, but we'll see how things go...
